I’m writing a book. It will be full of plant stories from the barrens. The more research I do in these incredible places, the more I realize that people are interested in the plants and other life that makes its home on heathlands, rock outcrops and other kinds of barrens. This book is an opportunity to tell a more complete story about these places than the ones published in my scientific papers. I’m covering some of my personal relationship to the barrens; why I think the plants there are worthy of your attention, what is known, unknown and the (hopefully) amusing stories describing how we learned all these things.
